        • ii) John Paul Warburton, CIE (1911). b. 28th August 1840, as Jan Dad Khan, educ. Roman Catholic Sch., Agra. Adopted by his step-father, Lieutenant-Colonel Robert Warburton, and given the name John Paul Warburton. Assist. Dist. Supt. Punjab Police, 28/5/1864, served at Ludhiana, Delhi, Muzaffargarh and Amballa 1864-1872, prom. Dist. Supt. 2/4/1873, Assist. Insp-Gen. Railway Police 14/6/1894, retd. 1900, Insp-Gen. Patiala State Police 1900, Mbr. Cncl. of Regency Patiala State 1900-1909. Received a grant of land in the Gujjranwala dist, now a town named Warburton, in Pakistan. m. at Ludhiana, Punjab, 24th December 1863, Mary Ann (b. at Cawnpore, 23rd September 1839; d. at Amritsar, Punjab, after March 1889), widow of Ensign William Phillip Meakins, and daughter of John Whayman, sometime Punjab PWD, by his wife, Isabella. He d. from injuries received in a fall from his horse, at Gilbert House, Kasauli, Pujab, 21st October 1919, having issue, seven children, three sons and four daughters:
          • (1) Robert Paul Warburton. b. at Ludhiana, Punjab, 19th April 1865, educ. Edinburgh Univ. Joined Uncovenanted Civil Service. m. Ida Louisa (b. at Hissar, 25th July 1871), daughter of William Barnett Edward Ives, by his wife, Agnes Constance. He had issue, one son and one daughter:
            • (a) Julian Durani Ives Maclean Warburton, KPM (1.1.1932). b. 14th October 1894. Joined Punjab Police 24/9/1914, Dep. Supt. Punjab Police, Multan 6/2/1931, SDO Railway Police 3/3/1932, Dep. Supt. at Sheikhpura 25/10/1932, and Karnal 10/4/1935. m. Lucy Agnes Marie (m. second, ca. 1945, and returned to England), sometime Cipher Ofcr. Indian Intelligence Dept. He d. at Karnal, 6th April 1936, aged 41, having had issue, an only daughter:
              • (1) Pamela Durani Warburton. b. 13th February 1936.
            • (a) Louise. She d. aged three years.
          • (2) Arthur Warburton. Served in the Boer War and in Burma Police. m. ca. 1935, Molly (b. 1908; m. second, at St Paul's Church, Ambala, 23rd December 1939, Alan Thornton Bain, Lieut. East Lancs. Regt), daughter of Thomas Stevenson Macfarlane. He d.s.p. at Bexhill, Surrey.
          • (3) John Paul Warburton. b. at Ludhiana, Punjab, 7th August 1878.
          • (1) Durani Warburton. b. at Ludhiana, Punjab, 1867, educ. Woodstock Sch., Landour. She dunm.
          • (2) Lizzie Selina. b. at Ludhiana, Punjab, 19th March 1873, educ. Woodstock Sch., Landour. m. at Lahore, 7th March 1895, The Hon Alfred Ernest Martineau (b. at London, 9th September 1868; d. at Lahore, 23rd November 1926), educ. Univ. Coll. Sch., London, entered ICS 1889, Registrar Lahore Chief Court, Divsnl. Judge 1897, Puisne Judge High Court of the Punjab 1918, 1921-1926, second natural son of His Honour Judge Alfred Martinieau, sometime County Court Judge, Sussex. She d. 11th April 1952, having had issue, three sons and two daughters:
          • (3) Minna Edith. b. at Ludhiana, Punjab, 3rd September 1874, educ. Woodstock Sch., Landour. m. Lieutenant-Colonel Francis Gordon Arabin Wimberley (b. 22nd August 1869; m. second, 1950, Julia Christie, and d. 16th January 1953), Cmsnd. 2nd-Lieut. SWB 9/9/1891, transf. IA 24/10/1893, served NWF at Tochi (rcvd: medal & clasp), prom. Capt. 10/7/1901,Cantonment Magistrate at Jubbalpore 1903, prom. Maj. 9/9/1909, and Chakrata, prom. Lieut-Col. 9/9/1917, third son of The Rev. Charles Irvine Wimberley, sometime Vicar of Hartlip, Kent, by his wife, Frederica Mildred Mountain, daughter of Lieutenant-Colonel Arabin, RA. She had issue, two sons.
          • (4) Muriel Pauline. b. at Ludhiana, Punjab, before 30th April 1876, educ. Woodstock Sch., Landour. m. Captain Kenneth Stenning. She had issue, a daughter, who married a Frenchman.
