Inayat-i-Ilahi Padshah-i-Adl Gustar Khusrawi ‘Alam Panah Mazhar-i-Lutfu’llah Zill-i-Haq Sultan Mahmud Shah Bahadur, Dur-i-Durran, Padshah of Afghanistan, fifteenth son of H.M. Inayat-i-Ilahi Sultan Timur Shah Bahadur, Padshah-i-Ghazi, Dur-i-Durran, Padshah of Afghanistan, by his fifth wife, a lady of the Yusufzai clan. Proclaimed at Kabul on the deposition of his elder half-brother, 25th July 1801. Deposed by his elder brother Shuja ul-Mulk, 13th July 1803. Restored 3rd May 1809, but lost Kabul again in 1818. Continued his rule at Herat. m. several wives, including (a) as her first husband, Gauhar Begum (m. second, H.H. Amir al-Mumenin Dost Muhammad Khan, Amir of Afghanistan). He d. under mysterious circumstances (his son Kamran supposedly having a hand in his death), at Herat, before 22nd June 1830, having had issue, including one son and two daughters- 1) H.R.H. Shahzada Kamran Shah, Durr-i-Durran, educ. privately. He contested power with his father over the control of Herat 1820-1821. Returned and took possession of Herat in 1828, then proclaimed himself as ruler there following the death of his father before 22nd June 1830. Withstood a Persian siege under the command of Crown Prince Abbas Mirza in 1833, and another under Russian auspices lasting ten months from 23rd November 1837 until they were forced to withdraw under British pressure on 8th September 1838. He contested power with his minister, Sardar Yar Muhammad Khan, for several years until placed under surveillance by the latter when his attack upon the Wazir’s fort failed in 1841. m. (first) at Sistan, 1801, a daughter of Bahram Khan. m. (second) ca 1803, a daughter of his uncle, H.M. Inayat-i-Ilahi Padshah Sultan Zaman Shah Bahadur, Durr-i-Durran, Shah of Afghanistan. He was k. on the orders of his powerful Wazir, Yar Muhammad Khan Alkozai, at Kuhsan, May, 1842, having had issue, ten sons and several daughters, including
- a) Shahzada Jahangir Mirza. b. 1810, educ. privately. Revolted against his father, when sent by him to quell disturbances in Farrah. Arrested by Sardar Yar Muhammad Khan, and removed to Herat, where he was held in open captivity until 1842. Settled in Niguaristan, Persia, where he lived a life of dissipation. He d. after 1855, having had issue, two sons:

- b) Shahzada Sher Muhammad, Saif ul-Mulk, educ. privately. Settled in Persia 1838. Later returned to Gour, before removing to Zamindavar, in Kandahar province. He d. after 1855, having had issue, two sons.
- c) Shahzada Sa’adat ul-Mulk. Settled in Persia 1842. Later returned with his brother to Gour, before removing to Zamindavar, in Kandahar province.
- d) Shahzada Alamgir Mirza. Settled in Persia 1842, later went to India. He d. after 1855, having had issue, one son.
- e) Shahzada Ahmad ‘Ali. b. 1815. Settled in Persia 1842, later went to India. He d. after 1855, having had issue, one son.
- f) Shahzada Jalal ud-din Mirza. Settled in Fars 1838. He d. after 1855, having had issue, one son.
- g) Shahzada Sikandar Mirza. Settled in Persia 1842. He d. at Tehran, 1846.
- h) Shahzada Shahab Mirza. Settled in Persia 1842. He d. after 1855, having had issue, one son.
- i) Shahzada Zaman Mirza. Settled in Persia 1842. He d. at Tehran, 1846.
- j) Shahzada Nadir Mirza. Settled in Bokhara 1838, but later went to Baghdad. He d. after 1855, having had issue, one son:
- 1) H.R.H. Shahzadi Ruqiya Begum. m. before 1816, her first cousin, Shahzada Malik Qasim, son of H.R.H. Shahzada Haji Firuz ud-din Mirza, sometime Governor of Herat - see above.
- 2) H.R.H. Shahzadi Taqiya Begum.

Inayat-i-Ilahi Sultan Timur Shah Bahadur, Padshah-i-Ghazi, Dur-i-Durran, Padshah of Afghanistan, by his second wife, Shahzadi Gauhar un-nisa Afraz Banu Begum Sahiba [Muhammadi Zuhra Begum], elder daughter of H.M. ‘Abu’l-‘Adil ‘Aziz ud-din Muhammad ‘Alamgir II Sahib-i-Qiran Padshah Ghazi, Emperor of India. Proclaimed at Kabul on the second deposition of his younger half-brother, Mahmud Shah, in 1818. Deposed by his elder brother, 1819. He was k. (strangled in his bed-chamber by Shahzada Ismail, son of Ayub Shah), at the Bala Hisar, Kabul, 1819, having had issue, three sons:- 1) Shahzada Muhammad Karim.
- 2) Shahzada Sher Afghan.
- 3) Shahzada Muhammad Amin.

Inayat-i-Ilahi Sultan Timur Shah Bahadur, Padshah-i-Ghazi, Dur-i-Durran, Padshah of Afghanistan, by his first wife, a lady of the Popalzai clan. Proclaimed as ruler by Sardar Muhammaz Azam Khan Barakzai, in opposition to his brother’s nominee, Sultan ‘Ali Shah, 1818. Remained in his own house at Kabul as a shadow king until formally proclaimed ruler following the deposition and murder of his elder brother, 1819. Ascended the musnaid at the Bala Hissar, Kabul, 1819. Deposed and imprisoned by Sardar Pur Dil Khan Barakzai, 1823. Imprisoned and tortured until he handed over funds and treasure amounting to one lakh of rupees. Escaped with the help of Nawab Muhammad Zaman Khan and made his way to Lahore, where he became a pensioner of Ranjit Singh. He d. (presumed tortured and killed by the Barakzai), at Lahore, Punjab, India, ca. 1st October 1837 (bur. there at Darbari Ayub Shah), having had issue, seven sons:- 1) Shahzada Ismail Mirza. He was k. in the Audience Hall of the Bala Hisar, Kabul, by Sardar Pur Dil Khan Barakzai, 1823, having had issue:
- a) Shahzada Sultan Muhammad [Mahmud Khan].
- 2) Shahzada Ghulam Haidar Mirza.
- 3) Shahzada Ahmad Shah Mirza. m. Hamida Begum. He had issue, one son:
- a) Shahzada Muhammad Shah.
- 4) Shahzada Pir Muhammad Mirza. He had issue, two sons:
- a) Shahzada Taj Muhammad.
- b) Shahzada Rustam ‘Ali.
- 5) Shahzada Muhammad Jalal Mirza.
- 6) Shahzada Sher Muhammad Mirza. m. Shaukat Sultan Begum (d. after 1st January 1874). He d. before 26th June 1866, having had issue, one son:

- 7) Shahzada ‘Ali Ahmad Mirza Khan Bahadur. Granted the personal title of Khan Bahadur. He had issue, three sons and two daughters:

- c) Shahzada Ghulam Husain ‘Ali. m. Bibi Zarghuna, an ‘Alikozai lady. He had issue:
- i) Shahzada Ahmad ‘Ali. m. Hamida Begum, daughter of Sardar Muhammad Ismail Khan. He had issue, four sons and one daughter:
- (1) Shahzada Salah ud-din Durrani. m. Fauzia Begum, eldest daughter of ‘Abdu’r Hamid Khan Mukhmur, by his wife, a daughter of Muhammad Usman Khan.
- (2) Shahzada Hisam ud-din Durrani. m. an American lady. He has issue, one son:

- (3) Shahzada Muhammad Jalil Durrani. m. (first) Bibi Zainab. m. (second) Bibi Khatul, a Popalzai lady. He has issue, two sons:
- (a) Shahzada Mustafa Durrani (s/o Bibi Zainab).
- (b) Shahzada ‘Ali Durrani (s/o Bibi Khatul).
- (4) Shahzada Maslah ud-din Durrani. m. Hanisa Begum. He has issue, three sons:
- (a) Shahzada Harris Durrani.
- (b) Shahzada Arash Durrani.
- (c) Shahzada Yusuf Durrani.
- (1) Shahzadi Habiba Begum.
- a) Shahzadi Sharaf Sultan Hukumat Begum. m. Colonel Sardar Muhammad Yusuf Khan (b. 1855), sometime Governor at Herat, eldest son of Sardar Yahya Khan, Governor of Kabul, by his wife, Hamdan Sultana Begum, eldest daughter of Sardar Muhammad Akbar Khan Ghazi, sometime Chief Minister of Afghanistan. She had issue - see Afghanistan (Telai).
- b) Shahzadi Shamsi Begum. m. Shahzada Abbas, of Mardan, Punjab.
