  • 1644 - 1649 Shah Husain Khan, Wafadar Khan Bahadur, Governor of Safa and Chief of the Alus Abdali, elder son of Khan Maudad Khan, Governor of Safa and Chief of the Alus Abdali. Succeeded his father as Chief of the Alus Abdali and Governor of Safa 1644. Courted by both the Shah of Persia and granted the title of Mirza. Fled to India after losing Safa to his cousin in 1649, Sultan Hayat Khan Khudakka. Settled at Multan. Granted an Imperial mansab of 700 together with the district of Sialkot in jagir (later exchanged for Rangpur), and raised to the title of Wafadar Khan, by Emperor Shah Jahan. Served under Prince Dara Shikoh in his expedition to Kandahar in 1653, and with Aurangzeb in the Deccan 1654-1655. He d. at Rangpur, before 18th September 1659, having had issue, a son:
    • 1) Muhammad Husain Mirza. Entered the Mughal service and appointed to an Imperial mansab of 80 zat 1649. He d.v.p. before 1658.

  • 1649 - 1665 Sultan Khuda Dad Khan [Khudkai Sultan], Sultan of Safa and Chief of the Alus Abdali. b. before 11th February 1614, elder son of Khwaja Khizr Khan, Governor of Safa and Chief of the Alus Abdali. Disputed the succession of his cousin, Shah Husain Khan. Defeated him and seized control of Safa 1649. Extended his rule over a wide area between Kaseghar and Kandahar, including Argistan, but not including the Fort of Kandahar. Assumed the title of Sultanm. Murad Bibi. He d. 14th August 1665, having had issue, three sons (ancestor of the Sultan-khel and Khudakka Saddozai):

  • 1665  Sultan Qalandar Khan, Sultan of Safa and Chief of the Alus Abdali, eldest son of Sultan Khuda Dad Khan [Khudkai Sultan], Sultan of Safa and Chief of the Alus Abdali. Succeeded on the death of his father, 14th August 1665, and reigned for two months and 23 days. Chief of the Alus Abdali. He was k. (s.p.) attempting to seize Kandahar, 4th November 1665.

  • 1667 - 1680 Sultan Hayat Khan Khudakka, Sultan of Safa and Chief of the Alus Abdali. b. at Safa, 1647, youngest son of Sultan Khuda Dad Khan [Khudkai Sultan], Sultan of Safa and Chief of the Alus Abdali, by his wife, Murad Bibi. Succeeded on the death of his elder brother as Chief of the Alus Abdali, 12th October 1667. Defeated in battle at Kandahar in 1680. Abdicated in favour of his cousin, Ja’afar Sultan and fled to India. Settled at Multan where he received lands from the Mughal Emperor. m. (first) a Afghan. m. (second) an Indian dancing girl. He d. at Kiri Sultan Hayat, Multan, 26th April 1729 (bur. there at Bagh-i-Khudakka), having had issue, four sons:
    • 1) Sultan ‘Abdu’llah Khan, Shah of Herat and Sultan of Safa (s/o the first wife) - see below.
    • 2) Shahzada Muhammad Baqir Khan, Sardar Khan Bahadurb. 1680 (s/o the first wife). Raised to the title of Sardar Khan Bahadur and recognised as head of the family in Multan. He d. at Multan, 30th July 1760, having had issue, two sons:
      • a) Shahzada Muhammad Shah Khan. He d. (presumed k.) during a hunting trip, 13th February 1760.
      • b) Nawab Haji Muhammad Sharif Khan Bahadur. Taken prisoner by the Sikhs 1764. Released after paying a ransom of 12,000 rupees in 1767. Subadar (Governor) of Multan 1770-1771. m. (first) ... (d. 1798, bur. Bagh-i-Khudakka, Multan). He d. at Shujabad, 7th June 1775, having had issue, three sons:
        • i) Shahzada Pir Muhammad Khan. b. 1757. Taken prisoner by the Sikhs 1764. He d.s.p. at Shujabad, 1st February 1777 (bur. Bagh-i-Khudakka, Multan).
        • ii) Shahzada Din Muhammad Khan. Taken prisoner by the Sikhs 1764. He d. 1804, having had issue, a son:
          • (1) Shahzada ‘Ali Muhammad Khan. Author of the "Tazkirat ul-Muluk" (1835). He d. 1839, having had issue, four sons:
            • (a) Shahzada Haji Muhammad Bahram Khan. Tahsildar Multan. Rendered valuable services to the government during the Indian Mutiny 1858. He d. at Mecca, Arabia, 1878, having had issue, three sons:

  • 1680 - 1695 Ja’afar Sultan, Sultan of Safa and Chief of the Alus Abdali. Proclaimed on the abdication of his cousin, Sultan Hayat Khan Khudakka, 1680. He d. 1695.

  • 1695 - 1712 Sultan ‘Abdu’lllah Khan, Shah of Herat and Sultan of Safa. b. at Safa, 1670, eldest son of Sultan Hayat Khan Khudakka, Sultan of Safa and Chief of the Alus Abdali, by his first wife. Returned to Safa after the death of his cousin, Ja’afar Sultan, and was proclaimed as Sultan and Chief of the Alus Abdali, 1695. Joined Mir Wais in his rebellion against the Persians in 1708, but later fell-out with him and returned to Safa. He joined the banner of King Kaikhusru of Georgia, the Persian commander, who recognised him as Chief of the Alus Abdali in 1709. Retired to Herat after the Persians failed to take back control of Kandahar. He then sided with the Afghan population of the city when they revolted against the Persian governor Abbas Quli Khan Shamlu, gathered together large levies of his tribe, captured Isfizar fort and surrounded the city. Admitted into the Filkhana Bastion and took control of the city, 25th July 1717. Subsequently extended his rule over Ghurian, Kuhsan, Bala-Murghab, Badghis, Obah and Farah. m. a daughter of Sardar Daulat Khan. He was k. by Qasim Khan Zafran-khel, at Rauda Bagh, Herat, 13th November 1721, having had issue, five sons:
    • 1) Shahzada Assadu’llah Khan. b. at Multan, before 6th November 1687. Conquered Herat from the Persians, 16th October 1712. He was k. in battle against the Ghilzais, at Dil Aram, before 3rd October 1720.
    • 2) Shahzada Muhammad Khan. b. at Multan (s/o Daulat Khan’s daughter). Installed as Chief of the Alus Abdali, at Herat, before 15th July 1722. Forced to resign by the elders of the tribe after encountering opposition from his cousin, Zulfikhar Khan, before 19th September 1724. Went into exile in India, where he received an Imperial mansab of Haft Hazari and granted lands in Multan, Delhi and Lahore in 1740. He was k. while attempting to cross into Afghanistan, at Sibbi, before 30th November 1750, having had issue, at least three sons:

      • b) Shahzada Muhammad Akbar Khan. Attempted to capture Kandahar in March 1775, but captured and imprisoned at the Bala Hissar, Kabul.
      • c) Shahzada Asghar Khan. He was k. with his father, at Sibbi, before 30th November 1750.
    • 3) Shahzada ‘Abdu’ll Rahman Khan. He attempted to avenge his father’s death by killing Zulfikhar Khan in 1725. This resulted in a long and drawn out feud ultimately settled when the tribal leaders expelled both parties out of Herat in 1726, Zulfikhar to Bakharz and ‘Abdu’ll Rahman to Farah.
    • 4) Shahzada Allah Yar Khan. Brought from Multan by the elders of the tribe and proclaimed as Chief of the Alus Abdali, at Herat, 1726. Submitted to Nadir Shah, May 1729 but subsequently lost Herat to Zulfikhar Khan 21st April 1730. Restored by Nadir Shah, 22nd August 1731. Joined the revolt against Nadir Shah, but left Herat at the dead of night when Nadir’s army advanced toward the city, 28th February 1732 . Settled in Multan.
    • 5) Shahzada ‘Ali Yar Khan. He left issue.
